"gentle winds and waters near, make music to the lonely ear"
New poetry from Isabel de Andreis and Heather Gluck
Hello darlings!
Charlie is tired of writing newsletters so this is HLR taking over.
I’ve been in Nottingham this weekend. On Friday we walked around Nottingham University where Charlie is going to start a PhD in Spanish Translation. Being on campus made me miss being a student. We bumped into D.H. Lawrence and saw the house where Dorothy Whipple had ‘the fullest years of [her] life’. Yesterday we went to Newstead Abbey (above), the not so humble abode of Lord Byron where he threw the crazy parties I attended in a past life. Yesterday was World Cinema Day, so we saw a film that I didn’t like, but Charlie did. I’ve been well looked after - provided with endless coffee, Diet Coke, poems and flowers - and really don’t want to leave, but I’ll be back!
On Wednesday we were treated to this haunting, spellbinding poem by Isabel de Andreis, a poem that literally took my breath away. Earlier today we were delighted to share two poems by Heather Gluck, full of ultra-specific, gorgeously jarring imagery.
Rest in Peace Gboyega Odubano
Gboyega Odubanjo died in tragic circumstances in Northamptonshire this week. He was, by all accounts, an absolute diamond. Above is a short video of him doing what he loved best: reading and talking poetry. Support the Gboyega Odubanjo foundation.
That’s it from me. Time to head back to N8 :( Take care of yourselves!
HLR xx
